fiber prep, Scouring raw fleece

Tour de fleece prep – shetland “Cassie”

I decided for tour de fleece this year I’m going to work on my Shave’em 2 Save’em breeds. My drum carder should be here this week as well. So today I’m going to process Cassie, a black Shetland with a gorgeous fleece. The shepard was awesome and separated the fleece into 3 sections; side, britch, and neck. I started with the sides bag, which obviously has more veg matter and quite a bit of dirt.

I’m excited to work my way through these different breeds and learn more about what makes each one different. I really enjoy processing my own fiber and hope one day to have my own flock. Anyone got a spare big winning lotto ticket 😆?

We have a heat advisory today for 105 degree temps and had a severe thunderstorm last night so it’s HUMID as all get out here. But I’m hoping it doesn’t take too long for my fiber to dry.

Until next time, laugh often, love deeply and knit the day away!
