I finally finished spinning the 3 black and purple braids of merino I bought awhile ago. Last night I wound one to start knitting a birthday pair of arm warmers for my teen, whose birthday was yesterday. Story of my life lately.
The yarn is 100% merino that I custom ordered for the teen. Spun singles on my EEW nano and plied on the EEW 6. I was able to get 396 yards of a 3-ply fingering weight yarn, which was exactly what I was aiming for. I split the braid into chunks and spun it so that 2 plies were pure black and the final ply went from black to purple and back to black. So basically occasional blips of purple on one of three plies.
I’m making up the pattern as I go based on her arm measurements. I’m starting hand up soni can make them as long as possible. I’m doing the ribbing on a 1.5 and will knit the rest on a US 2. I’ll knit the thumb space flat so I don’t have to deal with a gusset (I’ll likely knit this flat section on US 1.5 as well). She wanted her arm warmers/mitts for fashion and coverage instead of warmth so that allows me to possibly have some fun with the stitches.
Until next time, laugh often, love deeply and knit the day away!
